Volume 8 presents the important work group called the “Leipziger Choräle.” Next to the late versions compiled and entered by Bach himself in the manuscript “P 271”, all of the earlyversions with their sometimes widely divergent readings have also been edited here. The examination and evaluation of all relevant copies uncovered many a surprising new reading. Responsible for the new edition is the renownedorganist and musicologist Jean-Claude Zehnder. Next to a reliable musical text, thehighestimportance was placed once again on performance-practical aspects, the results of which can be seen in the greater spaciousness for the notation and comfortable page turns. The enclosed CD-ROM contains more versionspresented synoptically and for printing, a facsimile of an early copy of BWV 664, and the English translation of the commentary.
